About Religious Education
Please see also our RE Curriculum and Welcome.
Our Religious Education (RE) program is designed to provide an opportunity for children and youth to participate in three focus areas: religious exploration, social activities, and enrichment activities. Religious exploration activities are those that allow for the study of various religious concepts and promote spiritual experiences. RE classes on Sunday mornings are our base for religious exploration. Social activities are designed to help build a sense of community for our children and youth at the Fellowship. These activities may be solely for our youth, such as a lock-in, or intergenerational, such as an all-fellowship camping trip. Enrichment activities are offered to complement religious exploration and social activities. They provide opportunities for children and youth to learn new skills (cookie baking), gain new information (Coming of Age, Our Whole Lives, Camp UU), or participate in community service projects (Angel Tree project).
One of our most important enrichment offerings is that of Our Whole Lives (OWL), a sexuality education program. OWL is a comprehensive Lifespan sexuality program which promotes awareness, understanding, and good decision making. OWL curricula are written for the following groups: K-1st grade, 4th-6th grade, middle school, senior high, and adult. UUFWS offers OWL classes on a rotating basis. Please check with the Director of Religious Education for the current schedule.
Throughout the year a variety of activities are offered in each of the three focus areas. Prior to the start of each program year, a Prospectus is distributed. The Prospectus outlines the curricula for the year, presents a Religious Education (RE) calendar, and provides a form for families to register their children and youth in RE. The Prospectus also contains other useful information for parents, teachers and fellowship members. Please view the RE Registration Form for our current program year.
For more information about our programs and activities, please consult the current Prospectus, or contact our Director of Religious Education, Pam Lepley, at 336-659-0331 or pamlepley@yahoo.com .
