Welcome Back to UUFWS

Friday Sept. 5 Potluck at 6:30pm

Have your summer travels left you yearning for the comforts of home??

Come join us and catch up with all your Fellowship friends and to meet and greet newcomers to our community.

The Membership Committee is sponsoring September’s First Friday Potluck as a festive event welcoming everyone back from summer travels to begin a new year.

Our theme is Comfort Food and we’re inviting all to attend and bring your favorite comfort food or beverage to share.  And for our members, this is the perfect occasion to invite along a friend or co-worker who might like to learn more about UUFWS or share an evening of fellowship.

Committees are also invited to send representatives to talk about the work of your group.

HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!

Help Needed to Provide Lunch to Hard Working Women Habitat Builders
On September 6, 2008, a group of female volunteers will be working hard to build another Habitat for Humanity Green home.   This home is being built exclusively by women.  Thank you to all those who volunteered to work.  Our work schedule is full but we still need help providing these hard working ladies with a much needed lunch and drink.  If you can help supply food/drink or help serve, please email Linnea Johnson <johnson.linnea@yahoo.com>.

Thanks in advance for supporting this worthy cause.

Bookworms for Peace

Bookworms for Peace will not meet in August, due to summer schedule conflicts. The next meeting will be on Saturday September 13 at 9 a.m.,

where we’ll be discussing War is a Force that Gives Us Meaning, by Chris Hedges, a 224 page paperback published by Anchor (June 10, 2003).

Price: $13.95 retail, with used copies available on Amazon. Hedges, a New York Times foreign correspondent, argues not for pacifism but for responsibility and humility on the part of those who wage war: “The communal march against an enemy generates a warm, unfamiliar bond with our neighbors, our community, our nation, wiping out unsettling undercurrents of alienation and dislocation.” He draws on his experiences covering conflicts in Bosnia, El Salvador and Israel as well as works of literature from the Iliad to Hannah Arendt’s The Originsof Totalitarianism to look at what makes war so intoxicating for soldiers, politicians and ordinary citizens. The Care Committee Needs YOU!

The Care Committee provides assistance to Fellowship members and their families in times of need with transportation, food, and visitation. You can be a part of this caring community without ever having to attend a meeting. We need volunteers who are able to provide a ride or a meal to a fellow member on an occasional basis. Please e-mail me at cdersoff@triad.rr.com if you would like to be on our support list. Let me know your preference, food and or transportation, and the times you can be available. Join us in becoming part of the whole UUF caring community. Caroline Davenport-Ersof - Care Committee Co-Chair
